Here are some guidelines for your visit.

We want to ensure you have the best visit possible. Please take a look at these recommendations for before, during, and after your visit.

Get ready, get set…

If possible, prepare yourself for your class excursion by visiting the sites in advance. Admissions policies vary, so contact us before you plan to come to ensure your free admission. If this is not possible for you, then explore our websites to get to know us. The more familiar you are with us, the better you can prepare your students to feel comfortable when they arrive. A relaxed experience equals more engagement, learning, and enjoyment!

Come to us with inquiring minds.

Do ask questions, and encourage your student-scholars to do the same. Sometimes a question that seems irrelevant to the topic at hand may bring with it engagement for the curious student – and surprising connections among ideas!

We are the experts. You are the experts.

Educators at the sites are experts in content and delivery – trust us to facilitate your scheduled program. You are experts with your students – we trust you to anticipate any special needs and request accommodations in advance so everyone can have the best possible experience. The more we know about your students before their visit, the better we can serve them.

Make a reservation in advance!

Do contact us to make a group reservation well before your visit. This ensures that we have the capacity to accommodate your group and can provide you and your student-scholars the attention you deserve.

Running late?

It happens to all of us, and we will understand! But please do give us a call when you realize you’re going to be late for your scheduled visit. A short conversation with our team can help ensure that we make best use of our time – and yours.

Leave no trace.

The National Park Service uses a set of “Leave No Trace” principles to help visitors minimize impacts on the natural and historic sites we visit. Each Place-Based Boston site has its own guidelines to help protect our precious resources. Please respect these and ensure your student-scholars do the same.
